Approaching challenges to tenure: A fully remote librarian perspective

According to a large 2016 study, more than half of university librarian positions are granted nominal faculty status by their institutions, which includes tenure or peer-review process.1 So, scholarship and service, along with the performance regular job duties as outlined position description, expected points consideration for promotion college librarians. Current literature on tenure-track librarianship includes, but is not limited to, both professionalization de-professionalization library positions, how generational groups feel about status, impact that racial identity disability have process. While discussion around necessity even desire continues, there has so far been little expectations set this fully remote employees. Remote work in libraries become increasingly common during COVID-19 pandemic, it seems being hired remote. This designation presents challenges librarians positions. As who works across country from my institution, I identified three major expectations: lack peer collaboration opportunities, physical barriers service at institution levels, profound feeling disconnect mission vision institution.
